Determination & Delights

My main goal today was to take it easy. Nothing to aggravate my back. I want to be able to go back to work on Monday. Heck, I want to be able to do anything! Pain free. The Toradol is really helping...

Rocketboy had some side jobs to do today & the boys surprised me with a request for...waaaaaaait for it....HAIRCUTS! Now those of you who know my Mason, know that his hair is really a masterpiece to behold. It's like a train wreck that you cannot look away from. But this 9 year old is FIERCELY proud of it. Anyhooo...Quinn stuck to his usual faux-hawk, Mason got a trim. He truly did. I swear. And I am ok with it...hippie.

After haircut heaven, I dropped the boys off with their papa and decided to hit any yard sale I saw along the way home, and there were many today!  Here are my fun little vintage finds: at 50 cents a piece, (LOVE little cutie pie old ladies!) I'm quite pleased with them!

This is lovely, (sorry the pics are so wee, you can click it to big it!) a beautifully cut glass plate sits atop a silver stand which could use some silver polish...it's the PERFECT piece for Rosie's candle!

This lovely little vase is the start of my green glassware collection. Don't ask me why, I am just so drawn to green glass! Holds little azalea cuttings juuuuuust right!

After yard sale patrolling, I decided to hit Hemingway's Used Books in downtown Abbotsford...looking for non other than Jane Eyre. I love this bookstore. I love how it smells all vintage-ee when you walk in. And I love how when you ask the man who runs the joint if he has a certain book, he knows JUST where it is in his store...So I got me a nice gently used copy of Jane Eyre & I will report book-club-style back to you once I get started.

My dear Ms. C. has had a longing for a certain special cookbook, and I happened to get my hands on that today too. I was so excited to find this for her (only copy in the store), that I rushed it STRAIGHT over to her house! She may have squealed. Just sayin. I'm pretty sure I already know exactly where she is going to put it!

Once Rocketboy came home, we ran the doggies, grabbed some java, did some leisurely shopping, looked at travel trailers....mmmhmmmm. Then we came home to our patio for homemade margaritas, some french bread with balsamic vinegar & evoo, and a lovely bocconcini salad with oregano from our garden!

A perfect, relaxing, pretty close to pain free day!

Haaaaaaaaleluujah!

I STILL have one more day off to go! WOOT!
Have you been wondering what I have been up to??? Well let me tell you...

Friday was Trifecta day. The trifectess who hosted surprised Ms Cupcake & I will little goody bags full of crafty goodness...so we drank coffee, giggle, gossiped & crafted. I LOVE Trifecta day! It's pure bliss! I love you Trifectesses!

Saturday we took the doggies to White Rock beach. Oh my little heart was so warmed to see them frolicking on the sand & in the waves!

I also picked up my new/old desk that morning! It was at an Estate sale...10 bucks! Solid wood! Boy is she going to get a makeover...she is going in the spare room downstairs and she is going to house a lovely new sewing machine!

While that was all very lovely, spending time sans kidlets with the hubby, coffee & chatting...Saturday afternoon takes the cake! Ms Cupcake & I went to meet our new great, sweet, thoughtful, funny, WONDERFUL friend from Roses & Rutabagas. She surprised us with a gorgeous little gifty each...don't be jealous...we have to do some reporting back to her on it, so it's kind of like work! ;) We spent two hours there just chatting & laughing. Then I took Ms Cupcake to the VV Boutique where she scored a lovely little end table.

Today, busy, typical Monday...boys to school...I went to Rotary...2 miles. (LOVE my new runners!) Went to massage therapy...again, don't be jelz...it's not a lovely relaxing massage, it's very soft tissue manipulating...I hurt myself @ yoga 2 weeks back. As a result, the RMT said ABSOLUTELY NOT when I asked him if I could go to yoga in the morning :( Oh well, besides, I'm in pain....

I did however.....SEW! I made a reusable shopping tote (click link to see!)

And now my ass is firmly planted on the couch. The kidlets are in bed...the hubs is watching baseball...and I obviously, am blogging with my tea. Hugs to Ms C today. My thoughts were with you all day mon amie.

Dear friends in blogland, I wish you a restful Monday night!

0220 & all's well

silencia. is that spanish for silence do you think? or be quiet. silencia!
well in rocketgirl-land it means...quiet. not be quiet...just...quiet.

everyone is sleeping. the overhand fans are whirring. the lights are low. the tapping of my computer keys are thankfully not waking anybody up. everytime my email notification goes off tho, it makes me jump. it's Mrs Cupcake. she's down the hall, around the corner and up the other side. you may call us...the night shifters. (now re-read this whole paragraph in your low down scary announcer voice...kwim?)

sounds like some bad movie trailer. could easily be made better if like, oh taylor lautner was just standing there, loitering. you know, without his shirt. before you say anything, i don't care how old he is.

delirium is setting in. when is break time....T minus 45 mins. i can do it. aaack. there goes the email again.

do you know that quinn called mason a shifty bastard today???? and then they ROARED! wtf.

i'm trying not to be bitter today. i am so bitter. and sad. i can't help it.

mom, can i get a spongy finger???

sitting here in my housecoat still. oh i have been mildly productive, don't get me wrong.
i showered, make up is on, there is SOME laundry going and i have been monitoring my son's Facebook musings....

he BEGGED and begged and i relented as he wanted to play with his friends. but on ONE condition. i get and set the password. so the monitoring has begun, for the most part it has been harmless and cute. we have had a lengthy chat about respect, responsibility, bullying and the like. i also threw in that the RCMP monitor all FB pages; fear tactics 101. and i think he took that to heart, as his grandparent-in-laws are both RCMP Staff Sgts. we shall see.

it's hailing out as we speak, i am thoroughly enjoying this lazy saturday. i'll be getting dressed just in time to go to an early dinner with the fam @ me n' eds pizza and then to the abbotsford heat hockey game. mason is JUST beside himself.....

trying to get used to the idea...

so. quinn's new school has one of the most highly regarded band programs in all of western canada. when i grew up, dorks joined the band. apparently it's the cool thing to do now. and while i have been prepared for some time that this was coming....we bought quinn an acoustic guitar for his birthday in May...i think it's def going to take more time to get used to.

quinn was told, there is only room for 3 bass guitarists in 6th grade band. 4 children wanted to play. names were drawn, quinn + his best bester both drew bass guitar along with a girl. so i have ONE happy 11 yr old. and of course quinn + his bff have been planning the demise of the Jonas Brothers ever since band class on wednesday.

a bass guitar comes with an AMPLIFIER! wtf! so while this isn't quinn's actual setup, we go on saturday to the music store to get it all, (and of course i will post pics of his proud little face as we select his guitar, amp etc) i find myself staring at this picture...trying to absorb it all. envisioning the noise that is home practice requirement wafting from the basement. trying to love the pending noise, proud that he wants to learn music.

hey, have you met my son quinn? he's a rockstar. he bought me a boat & we're going to the grammys. omg, what am i going to wear?

not even a wave...

Grade 3. Grade 6. How did this happen???

I mean look at them? No nice pants, no collared
shirts. I tried. But apparently it IS cool to wear
baggy jeans and hoodies (as the approx 500 middle school kids wore) And I am unhip. Did I
mention you don't tie up your sk8 shoes either??

So middle school was a madhouse. The nervous hovering 6th grade parents. Present company included...I could hardly tear myself away to get to the elementary school...which was nice. Same parents, (we still hover) same classmates, wonderful teacher. Wonderful little contained
school. Familiar.

Quinn didn't look back. Not once.
Mason gave me a kiss, but was gone in a flash.

Thank gawd it's only a half day. I wonder if they know that I still need them to need me???
