Determination & Delights

My main goal today was to take it easy. Nothing to aggravate my back. I want to be able to go back to work on Monday. Heck, I want to be able to do anything! Pain free. The Toradol is really helping...

Rocketboy had some side jobs to do today & the boys surprised me with a request for...waaaaaaait for it....HAIRCUTS! Now those of you who know my Mason, know that his hair is really a masterpiece to behold. It's like a train wreck that you cannot look away from. But this 9 year old is FIERCELY proud of it. Anyhooo...Quinn stuck to his usual faux-hawk, Mason got a trim. He truly did. I swear. And I am ok with it...hippie.

After haircut heaven, I dropped the boys off with their papa and decided to hit any yard sale I saw along the way home, and there were many today!  Here are my fun little vintage finds: at 50 cents a piece, (LOVE little cutie pie old ladies!) I'm quite pleased with them!

This is lovely, (sorry the pics are so wee, you can click it to big it!) a beautifully cut glass plate sits atop a silver stand which could use some silver polish...it's the PERFECT piece for Rosie's candle!

This lovely little vase is the start of my green glassware collection. Don't ask me why, I am just so drawn to green glass! Holds little azalea cuttings juuuuuust right!

After yard sale patrolling, I decided to hit Hemingway's Used Books in downtown Abbotsford...looking for non other than Jane Eyre. I love this bookstore. I love how it smells all vintage-ee when you walk in. And I love how when you ask the man who runs the joint if he has a certain book, he knows JUST where it is in his store...So I got me a nice gently used copy of Jane Eyre & I will report book-club-style back to you once I get started.

My dear Ms. C. has had a longing for a certain special cookbook, and I happened to get my hands on that today too. I was so excited to find this for her (only copy in the store), that I rushed it STRAIGHT over to her house! She may have squealed. Just sayin. I'm pretty sure I already know exactly where she is going to put it!

Once Rocketboy came home, we ran the doggies, grabbed some java, did some leisurely shopping, looked at travel trailers....mmmhmmmm. Then we came home to our patio for homemade margaritas, some french bread with balsamic vinegar & evoo, and a lovely bocconcini salad with oregano from our garden!

A perfect, relaxing, pretty close to pain free day!

you know it's been a long day when...

...you post to your blog THREE times in one day!

BORED!!!!!!!!! I've watched TV with the boys (no more Miley pls), read the flyers, googled everything I could & read every blog out there in Blogville. At least I think I came close...

Which led to me thinking...something I have wondered before...a crise de conscience if you will...well loosely translated. What exactly is my blog about?

Now that I have it transformed to look the way I think I want it to...(sorry to those of you who I made question your sanity...coughcoughrosie)

Is it purposeful? Does it inspire people? Is it a light-hearted read & escape for those who need it? Is it informative? Is it witty? Or is it merely self-serving? Is it personal therapy? What is it all for???? (DRAMA) I mean what is my blog all about!??!

Maybe it still has some evolving to do, I know that I want it to have or serve some sort of purpose...maybe it's already doing that & I don't even know it.

It's bizness time!

Mr. Rocketgirl does not want to be referred to as this any longer. He would like to be known/addressed as Rocketboy. **rolling eyes**

So proud of my hunny...all growed up & finished school & starting his own business. Yours truly is going to design his website, blog etc. Perhaps I can just be the hot secretary...

BLAHHHHHHH

Just WHAT the heck am I going to do all day?????  I should have kept my babies home from school today.

I was supposed to go in for one of those lovely little GRTW 4 hour shifts, but the pain in my back today was unbelievable. I know, you're tired of hearing me whine...but but but! So I called my wonderful doc @ 0700 and he said c'mon in tout de suite. SO, I ended up with the day off work, a rest day from physio, a Toradol Rx and a req for an X-ray! Yikes! X-ray done...waiting for results.

So I sit here, drinking my beloved Verona blend from Starbucks, catching up on blogland, Y & R amongst other things....waiting for the Toradol to kick in.

I feel like crying I'm so bored. And so tearful from the frustration that comes from lifting a jar of peanut butter (albeit Costco size) ..alas, it is too heavy.

Perhaps I will just go lay in the sun. But wait, I was going to embrace my pale Irish fair skin this year. Bah.

Wonderful Wednesday!

Good Morning Blog Friends!

What are you up to today? I want to know ALL about it!

My day started off like it usually does...coffee, boys to school...I have the day off...but I had physio @ 0830. Oh the horror. My physiotherapist is actually quite lovely. She always says 'How are you feeling today' and when I tell her, 'blah blah blah pain here, pain there, blah blah blah' she gives me this knowing little smirk, I can't tell if that look in her eyes is one of sympathy or satisfaction...in any case, she went easy on me today. HALLELUJAH!

Along with my ironing obsession (Rosie), I have a small obsession with making sure my fingernails are painted on my days off, and a medium obsession with changing my toenail lacquer colour 1 - 2 times per week...well who doesn't really. I pulled out my box of colours and (back)painstakingly buffed & polished. Colour du jour: Go On Green by OPI for my fingers...kind of a pale minty green and Light My Tiki by China Glaze for my toes, a bright sparkly summery orangey-coral colour.

{Note to self...Do not paint toes and put feet on floor when dogs are running around like crazies.}

Today is International Nursing Day. I'm laying low & resting til the gathering @ Brokeshopaholic's house. Yay! Back to work for 4 tomorrow.

Waiting to hear what YOUR wonderful Wednesday entails...

NOT GONNA LIE!

I could get used to these four hour shifts. I could REALLY get used to them! Oy. Little update...Gradual return to work program, physio, wcb. Everything is going smoothly...still sore, uber tired...takes time I guess.

It's National Nursing Week, International Nursing Day on May 12, which is incidentally Florence Nightingale's birthday.

Good ole Flo. Our "mother" of nursing, the "Lady with the Lamp", a pioneer who laid the very foundation for what we do today. On a related note, National LPN Day is on the 13th. (WOOT) Not trying to toot our own horns but gigiddy, nurses do a hard job. But a rewarding job. I love what I do, I love what my workmates do. The people I work with make my job enjoyable to go to everyday. The rewards of making a patient better enough to go home, or assisting a patient & their family through difficult times are beyond measure. It was easily the best decision/career change I could have made. I learn so much everyday from every person I come into contact with at the hospital & I get to celebrate tomorrow with my workmates...can't wait!

So on that note, raise a glass to nurses this week, be thankful for your health, protect your health, & cherish your family & friends.

Classics

Do you know that I have never ever read this book? I think it is my next read. Although, I would NOT like it new from Coles. I would love an old copy, one that many people have thumbed through. I will have to head to Hemingway's.

I MAY have overdone it yesterday...

Ok, so although I'd like to think I am, apparently I am NOT Wonderwoman.

WELL...when the physio lady said that I could return to work on Monday for four hours of light duties, as in no lifting, pulling, twisting, virtually no physical contact with my patients, I could have sworn that she meant I was also cleared to start refinishing my furniture and do my garden. Yes well, I can hardly move today **tears** so I'm figuring that's not what she was getting at.

Wishing a Happy Mother's Day to mums everywhere.

Go Green Smoothie

Ok, this is not your ordinary average smoothie. Stick with me for a minute...you too Rosie & Ms.C!

I got this recipe from Kelly @ Think Feel Be. I actually first came upon her...totally by accident...on FB. (She is very inspirational...I think she should move out West!) She was doing a "Go Green Smoothie Challenge" Ms.C & I had recently embarked on a healthy eating journey and this was a perfect way for me to incorporate my fruits & vegetables. Not only is it filling....VERY filling, but it tastes good! I swear! Even though....it's not pretty to look at...but honestly, I have one almost everyday...

Here is what you need;

1 tbsp Chia Seeds <---read here about Chia seeds...you will be amazed!
1 banana
3 cups fresh spinach (don't run screaming...)
6 oz cold water
2 oz orange juice
I have been adding strawberries also...it's that time of year you know...

Now Blend! And Enjoy!
