I think this is ADORABLE! Pinky Swear!

From a 1950's high school home economics textbook, teaching girls how to prepare for married life.

1. Have dinner ready: Plan ahead, even the night before, to have a delicious meal on time. This is a way of letting him know that you have been thinking about him, and are concerned about his needs. Most men are hungry when they come home and the prospects of a good meal are part of the warm welcome needed.

2. Prepare yourself: Take 15 minutes to rest so you will be refreshed when he arrives. Touch up your make-up, put a ribbon in your hair and be fresh looking. He has just been with a lot of work- weary people. Be a little gay and a little more interesting. His boring day may need a lift.

3. Clear away the clutter. Make one last trip through the main part of the house just before your husband arrives, gathering up school books, toys, paper, etc. Then run a dust cloth over the tables. Your husband will feel he has reached a haven of rest and order, and it will give you a lift, too.

4. Prepare the children: Take a few minutes to wash the children's hands and faces if they are small, comb their hair, and if necessary, change their clothes. They are little treasures and he would like to see them playing the part.

5. Minimize the noise: At the time of his arrival, eliminate all noise of washer, dryer, dishwasher or vacuum. Try to encourage the children to be quiet. Be happy to see him. Greet him with a warm smile and be glad to see him.

6. Things to avoid: Don't greet him with problems or complaints. Don't complain if he's late for dinner. Count this as minor compared with what he might have gone through that day.

7. Make him comfortable: Have him lean back in a comfortable chair or suggest he lie down in the bedroom. Have a cool or warm drink ready for him. Arrange his pillow and offer to take off his shoes. Speak in a low, soft, soothing and pleasant voice. Allow him to relax and unwind.

8. Listen to him: You may have a dozen things to tell him, but the moment of his arrival is not the time. Let him talk first.

9. Make the evening his: Never complain if he does not take you out to dinner or to other places of entertainment; instead, try to understand his world of strain and pressure, his need to be home and relax.

10. The goal: Try to make your home a place of peace and order where your husband can relax.

So much to do...

and so little time. I know, I know, cliche, but true!

I have a million things I want to do! I have purchased all this furniture, some lovely old pieces, and they need some Rocketgirl love! Mr. Rocketgirl has even offered palm sander lessons, I've learned lots lately about paint & primer from Ms Cupcake, and listened to some lovely design advice on kitschy-ness & eclectic-ness from Rosie.

So where do I begin? I have side tables to do ( which might go to the boys, one for each, I don't love them anymore but they were such a steal), the hope chest, our headboard, Steve's vintage 1940's waterfall dresser and my turn of the century dresser & mirror. BUT, I really want to start on my desk...I've been spending lots of time at it!

and this is one of my inspiration pics...

I'm on the hunt for JUST the right shade of blue...LOVE the hardware. It's going in the spare room downstairs...which is already a soft yellow colour. However, it's going to get a quick re-paint, a bit brighter yellow. I picked up some lovely fabric today (FABRICLAND IS FINALLY OPEN! I'm proud to say that Ms C & I are members...lalala) in a cute blue print to make some window treatments...pics to come.

But alas, the work week starts tomorrow, ~crying little tears~ thankfully it's a short set...

Haaaaaaaaleluujah!

I STILL have one more day off to go! WOOT!
Have you been wondering what I have been up to??? Well let me tell you...

Friday was Trifecta day. The trifectess who hosted surprised Ms Cupcake & I will little goody bags full of crafty goodness...so we drank coffee, giggle, gossiped & crafted. I LOVE Trifecta day! It's pure bliss! I love you Trifectesses!

Saturday we took the doggies to White Rock beach. Oh my little heart was so warmed to see them frolicking on the sand & in the waves!

I also picked up my new/old desk that morning! It was at an Estate sale...10 bucks! Solid wood! Boy is she going to get a makeover...she is going in the spare room downstairs and she is going to house a lovely new sewing machine!

While that was all very lovely, spending time sans kidlets with the hubby, coffee & chatting...Saturday afternoon takes the cake! Ms Cupcake & I went to meet our new great, sweet, thoughtful, funny, WONDERFUL friend from Roses & Rutabagas. She surprised us with a gorgeous little gifty each...don't be jealous...we have to do some reporting back to her on it, so it's kind of like work! ;) We spent two hours there just chatting & laughing. Then I took Ms Cupcake to the VV Boutique where she scored a lovely little end table.

Today, busy, typical Monday...boys to school...I went to Rotary...2 miles. (LOVE my new runners!) Went to massage therapy...again, don't be jelz...it's not a lovely relaxing massage, it's very soft tissue manipulating...I hurt myself @ yoga 2 weeks back. As a result, the RMT said ABSOLUTELY NOT when I asked him if I could go to yoga in the morning :( Oh well, besides, I'm in pain....

I did however.....SEW! I made a reusable shopping tote (click link to see!)

And now my ass is firmly planted on the couch. The kidlets are in bed...the hubs is watching baseball...and I obviously, am blogging with my tea. Hugs to Ms C today. My thoughts were with you all day mon amie.

Dear friends in blogland, I wish you a restful Monday night!

Nightshifters...are you out there? I am SO glad that after this nightshift, I have 5 days off! Knowing me I will probably pick up a shift...but 5 days off...it's certainly been awhile.

What are my plans you ask?? Well let me tell you...
  • Friday is Trifecta Day! Tra Laaaaaaaaa! So excited!
  • Friday night, possible sewing extravanganza...
  • Saturday, I MUST be in WR for 10am to buy this lovely desk off a fellow. 10 bucks! and then it meets the palm sander...
  • Saturday afternoon...R & R for candle shopping?! Who's in?
  • Saturday night...dinner out?! sans kids....sans kids til Sunday night actually!
  • Sunday? Monday? Tuesday?
I most likely will pick up at least one shift in those days....but I plan to sew, work on the spare room, and start refinishing all the furniture I have been collecting over the past few months. Weather permitting.

Helloooooooooooooo

Is it me you're looking foooooooor?

Now I know what you're thinking...some of you....oh nice, she's singing Lionel Richie....aaaah Good Rockin Tonite!....ooooh I haven't heard that lovely song in a while... oh that Rocketgirl & her show-stopping tunes!

Well I'll tell you what I'M thinking.....I'm thinking that I am going crrrrazzzzzzzy! Makes sense, 0414h. Seriously, I cannot get the song out of my head! It interrupted my ability to take my break (nurses, you know what I am getting at here...my nightshift BREAK!) Now what I want to know is, where on EARTH, would I have gotten that from? So, I you-tubed, some people say if you have a song stuck in your head, the best thing to do is to hear it. WRONG. I think I am now more disturbed than ever. His hair, the young girl, the clay, I mean seriously....what kind of video is that????

I can see it in your eyyyyyyes, I can see it in your smiiiiiiile....

Go ahead. My gift to you...I hope it's in your head ALL NIGHT LONG. Um, I pinky swear that wasn't on purpose. I give up.

मॅँ ने यह! भारतीय खाद्य!

Did you get that?? It says...I did it! Indian Food!

After another day of taxi-ing the kidlets, yoga-ing, jogging, perusing garden stores and second hand stores...all by my lonesome today I might add AND finding nothing to buy, I decided to get adventurous in the kitchen. I quite enjoy hunting down ingredients to try new recipes. Tonite I decided to tackle Indian food.

I will have you know, that on a good day, my dog can make a better pot of rice than I can. BUT, I made a lovely pot of basmati rice, chana masala (chick peas, onions, garlic, ginger, tomato puree & a whole plethora of spices), tandoori chicken, and handmade/homemade, yes that's right....handmade AND homemade roti.

Can you say dee-lish? So spicy! So good! So not the usual, kwim? I'm not sure if I should bring some leftovers to work for my Indo-Cdn co-workers to critique...I bet I already know what they'll say...PERFECT!

you gotta wait a minute mr. postman!

It's here! My 1 of 3 long awaited Etsy purchases! My vintage Mele jewel box! It SMELLS like vintage goodness inside! It's a gorgeous robin's egg blue/lavender-ish colour inside, the velvet is in mint condition, pockets, little spots for rings & trinkets....you pop the latch and when you lift the lid the bottom drawer comes out! Oh heaven! And in true Etsy style, came beautifully wrapped with a lovely card! Here, take a peak!

Prior to the postman arriving, I was already having a good day, went to yoga, did my walking program, and made a card...nowhere near as good as my owl card, but handmade nonetheless. I did however get my Cuttlebug out to emboss the paper...some glue, some flowers, et voila! A card.

And now, it's naptime. Nightshift awaits. PS, if you prefer, you can call me GERI! ;)
